Barber Shop

A name given to a particular type of close harmony singing, usually for 4 voices. Its characteristic is that each note is sung as a chord using the 4 voices (tenor, bass, baritone and a melody lead which may be tenor or higher).

It was current in Europe in the 17th Century but is now more associated with America.
