Bedfordshire is a rural county North of London and just outside the Home Counties. Like its neighbour Hertfordshire, it has little in the way of surviving Folk Customs although there would have been a wealth of Harvest and other rural activities prior to 1900.

Exceptions include Ickwell (and / or Northill) May Day which is celebrated with the Mayers, Lord and Lady and Moggies. These characters (the Moggies with blackened faces) would dance something akin to the Morris although today, it is local revival sides who dance. The characters have been revived as festival officials. Festivities include the Maypole and crowning the May Queen.
