A French word for a side-to-side movement describing a Dance in 4/4 time which in various forms is danced by couples in a line or a circle. The Bransle (or Branle) pronounced 'Brawl' was the dance often danced as a Carole. In Italy, it became the Sbrando. It was a highly regional dance with many variants including imitation of domestic life such as washing clothes.

The Horses Bransle is a well known and often played piece of music in English Sessions.
