A coracle is a small shallow boat, light enough to carry and made from willow rods tied with bark and covered with tarred animal skin. They are mainly confined to Wales and the Welsh Borders and fast flowing rivers such as the Severn. It is an ancient design and was already in use when the Romans invaded Britain. They are used for transport and fishing. They are propelled by a single paddle over the bow using a figure of 8 movement.
