Crying The Neck

A tradition in Devon and Cornwall which is a custom associated with the last sheaf of the Harvest. The last sheaf or Neck is blessed, ceremonially cut and tied with a chant which varies by area. It is a call and response chant between the cutter and the onlookers along the lines of:

We have it! We have it! We have it!

What 'ave 'ee? What 'ave 'ee? What 'ave 'ee?

What 'ave 'ee? What 'ave 'ee? What 'ave 'ee?

Hurrah! Hurrah for the neck! Hurrah for Farmer X

The custom now ends at the church but used to end with a more traditional feast
