A county in the East of England and home of the East Saxons. It is a relatively flat county as is all of East Anglia and fits between Suffolk and Hertfordshire.

Essex has a number of traditions some still existing and some now extinct. Hunting The Wren was known to be practised in Essex on 27th December and Plough Monday still is and so is Corn Dolly making at the end of Harvest one of which is laid in the first furrow to be ploughed in the next year. Molly dancing has been revived and regularly dance at Plough Monday celebrations.

Canewdon is famous for its association with Witches.
