Guide

There isn't much to say about the basic editing except, if you want to practice, please use the Sandbox.

The editor is WYSIWYG - it doesn't use strange mark up codes so just type in some text, highlight the word to embolden or link or whatever and press the appropriate button. There is a page of description of all the Editor Buttons here. The editor is actually the TinyMCE Javascript editor from Moxiecode.

Having said that, there are some wiki type markups that will work. At the moment, it is mainly for internal links and they save time over invoking the chain (link) symbol and filling in the form and for signing your work.

Links

If a word is surrounded by double square brackets, [[Word]], it becomes an internal link.
Inside the brackets there can be a word or words for the link and a vertical bar | then another word or words for the display:
[[Link Word |Display Word]], otherwise, the same word or words will do both jobs.
Words are 'camel-ised' for the link, that is hammer dulcimer becomes HammerDulcimer.

Sign and Date

A string of tildes will sign and date your work. If you didn't provide a signing name, it will be tagged Anonymous.
~~~ (3 tildes) = Name
~~~~ (4 tildes) = Name and Date
~~~~~ (5 tildes) = Date.
No Index
Pages have their content indexed on saving so that the search facility can find keywords. Common words and words of less than 3 letters are automatically excluded. If you need to exclude a section of a page from being indexed, surround the section in the following markup: %{ section text }%. This is converted by Sliki to the tags <span class="noindex"> and </span> respectively. Non-indexed text shows up as brown on the page and is useful for figures and measurements e.g. 580mm.
Password
Edits are password protected. This is only to stop casual wreckers from causing havoc to the site. Please apply to Folkipedia Edit Application for the current password which is emailed straight back to you.
If a page doesn't exist, you'll be invited to create the text to start one.
