Gurning

A tradition of rural England in which participants try to grossly distort their faces, usually in a contest. The face is sometimes framed by a horse collar or in more modern times, a toilet seat.

It was once common at fairs but is now rare. The championships are held at the Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria.
