The part of some musical Instruments which cause notes to be played when the keys are depressed. The obvious example is the Piano but other instruments have keyboards - the Hurdy Gurdy and Nyckelharpa for example.

Keys typically pivot and employ a lever action to affect a string or air column but may also work directly or via electrical contact.

The Piano Accordian is a keyboard instrument but those instruments with buttons are not usually classified as keyboards even though it is common to talk about the keyboard charts for Concertina or Melodeon.
