Martin Carthy

An influential and respected musician and artist. Plays guitar and is the father of Eliza Carthy and husband of Norma Waterson. Born in London, he moved to make his home in Yorkshire.

Martin has performed solo and as a member of Steeleye Span, Albion Band,Brass Monkey and Waterson:Carthy. He also performs with Dave Swarbrick.

First group was the Thameside Four (Skiffle). He is known to have influenced both Bob Dylan and Paul Simon when they visited England. Remember Simon and Garfunkel's arrangement of Scarborough Fair? Mostly Carthy's.

One-time resident at the Troubadour Folk Club in London where he first teamed up with Dave Swarbrick.

Renown for using any tuning for the guitar rather than the standard one to make it more interesting.
