NoteThe smallest part of a Tune. The building blocks of tunes. Notes are called by wonderful names in the Classical convention and by practical names in the American.
It's value (above) is how long it is held for, and its position is what Pitch (or silence) to be sounded for that duration. If the note is followed by a dot (a dotted note) it indicates holding the note for half as long again. Example: A dotted crotchet is equal to a note lasting as long as a crotchet and a quaver together. |
