Sandy Denny


English singer and songwriter, remembered mainly for her time with Fairport Convention.

She had the voice of an angel and died too young (1947 - 1978).

She was christened Alexandra Elene Maclean Denny and came from London. With a Scottish grandmother she gained an interest in traditional songs. At college (Kingston College of Art), she became involved with the Folk Club which led on to gigs and recordings before she joined Fairport Convention.

She died of a brain haemorrhage following a fall on holiday with her parents.

Sandy recorded with Alex Campbell, The Strawbs, Fairport Convention, guested on Led Zeppelin IV and solo.
