Scottish Music

Scottish traditional music is in the Celtic tradition and includes singing and Harp playing as strong origins before the Bagpipes came to be used as entertainment.

The Reel is a form of music and dance which is originally Scottish and travelled to Ireland at which point they diverged. The reel itself will have derived from France (Contre Danse) .

Another typical Scots form is the Strathspey which is a slower 4/4 dance than the reel and containing 'snaps' where notes are abruptly terminated.

There are beautiful airs and songs written in both Gaelic and English which are known all over the world.
