An traditional Italian Dance in Jig time (6/8) from the town of Taranto. A very popular and characteristic tune form which is immediately identifiable as being Italian. The dance is lively with light quick steps and passionate gestures.

There are legendary stories about how the bite of a tarantula spider caused the movements which became the dance or equally, how the movements of the dance had a curative effect for the tarantula bite.

The Fourlane (Venice) and Saltarello (Rome) are similar dances.
