Winter Solstice

The time of year when the Sun is at its lowest. It occurs between 20th and 23rd December (Northern Hemisphere) but is regularised to 21st for convenience. From this point on, days get longer, the Sun gets stronger, life begins to return to plants and it is regarded as a turning pont which used to be celebrated with a Fire Festival and is now part of the Saturnalia - Yule - Christmas conglomeration.
